Dev Hynes, one of the most prolific producers and songwriters of the past decade, sat down at Red Bull Music Academy recently to give a lecture. In it he touches upon a multitude of topics, including working with female voices in his music, being a black fan of classical music, and influential composer and musician Arthur Russell.
Earlier this year, Hynes released his third LP under the Blood Orange moniker, Freetown Sound. The album, which features collaborations from Empress Of, Debbie Harry, Carly Rae Jepsen and many others, is among my favorites released this year.
